December 2009
Another season is here already. Seems like yesterday that we were closing up and preparing
the island for the hurricanes that fortunately never arrived.
We are pleased to announce that despite these uncertain times for the hospitality industry
in general, and for the Turks and Caicos in particular, The Meridian Club is alive and well.
This is a testament to our many satisfied repeat guests
and the fact that we offer an experience
that few other resorts can match in this age of non-stop development and mega-resorts - a
getaway with no crowds, cars, building density or commotion. This is a place where you can truly
relax, unwind and enjoy the peaceful, unspoiled natural environment the Caribbean was once noted for.
We look forward to sharing our special island with you. In the meantime, please see below for some
important Meridian Club news.
Warm regards,
Bev and Wally Plachta

| New Acclaims
Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report, one of the most respected and selective publications
for the discriminating traveler, just introduced new Readers' Choice Award categories in their September,
2009 newsletter..
We are delighted to announce that The Meridian Club was voted one of the top 20
"Beach Resorts" and one of the top 20 "Family Resorts" in the world! Also, we were the only Turks and Caicos
resort to be included in either category.
Our beach has always been regarded as amongst the best in the world, but the second
award underscores a little known secret about us. While our hotel caters to adults (including those with children
age 12 and older) during the majority of the season, we have
Family Months in June and July when families with
younger children are also welcome. Obviously, as the award attests, guests have found Pine Cay to be a special
place for children during that time.

Bang Bang is Back!
Several years ago we were saddened to have our accomplished and happy-go-lucky
bartender Lewis (Bang-Bang) Missick, leave us to take a position with a new hotel opened by some relatives on his
home island of North Caicos. With his hearty laugh and impromptu singing performances, he was long a guest favorite.
We were fortunate that his younger brother, Desmond, who shared many of Bang-Bang's attributes, was available to
step into the position.
To bring you up-to-date...
This summer, Des decided to resume his music career (you may see him perform occasionally at jump-ups).
Bang-Bang reapplied and we quickly welcomed him back to his old position. Floyd, our long-time head bartender,
is happy to have his old colleague back and we are delighted to reclaim Bang-Bang's festive spirit.
Meet all our
Cheerful Staff on our web site.

Something New...Our OWN Spa!
Over the summer we constructed a new addition to the office building which includes a
dedicated spa area. We also were fortunate to hire Yani, one of the most experienced
and popular technicians to visit Pine Cay over the past several years, as our Spa Manager.
She now offers full-time spa services, including massages, hot stone treatments, pedicures,
manicures and body scrubs. Because we no longer have to arrange services through Provo
spas our prices are lower than ever!
We are very excited about this new dimension to The Meridian Club and think you will
share our enthusiasm. The Sand Dollar Spa awaits you. |

Fort George
Over a two week period in October and early November, we hosted an
archaeological team from The Turks and Caicos Museum and Ships of Discovery from Texas.
They conducted an archaeological survey on neighboring Fort George Cay, the site of an
18th century British military outpost.
Some interesting new historical facts emerged which the team presented to the Club's
members and guests on November 6th. An article will soon be published detailing the
findings and making recommendations for further steps to preserve the cay as a valuable
historic site.
The Turks and Caicos National Trust, whom The Meridian Club has long supported, was one
of the sponsors of the survey and strongly endorses preservation of the cay in its natural
state, not only for its historic value, but also as a valuable cultural and environmental
location. As readers who have been to The Meridian Club know, we have always believed that
proper stewardship of the spectacular natural environment in the Turks and Caicos is a
paramount obligation, and we are gratified to see two prominent local NGO's like the Museum
and Trust endorsing that objective.
